[Mickaboo Action] NEED: temp care for Mickaboo fosters in San Jose

SUMMARY Eric and I have two Mickaboo fosters, both Double-Yellow Headed Amazons, and could use help with their care during the Burning Man festival, from August 24 through September 4. We're in San Jose. There are many options, including a volunteer taking both, or a volunteer to take Jimmy and our friend will take Peppie, or having our bunny sitter handle the morning needs, with Mickaboo volunteers taking turns to stop by in the evening (bunnies only need morning care). MORE DETAILS The two birds who need care are Jimmy (male), and Peppie (sex not known). Jimmy is aggressive, a screamer, and a terribly insecure bird who needs calm reassurance and companionship. The aggression can be handled with proper care, but the screaming is often unbearable. He's afraid of other birds, and is mostly calm and mostly quiet in a human-only environment once he feels at home with the right person. Any other birds, no matter how small and non-threatening, send his aggression levels way up. That feeds his insecurity, and he screams and attacks humans. He does NOT attack the birds he is so afraid of, but attacks people instead. Bunnies don't bother him, as long as they keep their place and don't get in his face. Cats and dogs are probably ok, too. Peppie (pronounced "pep-pay") on the other hand, is probably a wild-caught old Amazon, maybe 25 years old. Tons of self-confidence and lots of "street-smarts". Not at all aggressive with some people. Very aggressive with others. If she's a "she", she doesn't seem to find Jimmy a suitable mate. She might be another male, but I'll stick with the female pronoun until we know otherwise. She never screams except when Jimmy is screaming. She will call out and vocalize in interesting ways including whistles, "hello", "hi", but overall for a DYHA, I'd consider her pretty quiet and sedentary. She's really sharp with learning new tricks via clicker training. We have a friend with big bird experience and no current birds. She's taken care of our birds and fosters for several years while we work at Burning Man. We dumped Jimmy on her last year, and I don't want to impose again. If Jimmy can go to another home, we could send Peppie to her. I don't wish to leave Jimmy here alone, so if he doesn't get a temp home, then I'd prefer to leave Jimmy and Peppie together here. We're getting a bunny sitter anyway, and can pay extra to have her feed the birds in the morning. They will need additional care in the late afternoon, before sunset, and paying the sitter to visit twice a day starts getting really expensive. Can anyone take Jimmy? I'm considering that pretty unlikely, so can anyone stop by in the late afternoon to feed, change paper, and close the curtains? If I can get 2 or 3 volunteers to take turns, it wouldn't be too hard on any one person. You wouldn't have to handle the birds. I'm leaving late on the 16th, or early 17th. Eric is leaving the morning of the 24th. He'll be back first, probably late on Sept 4th. I'd like to have arrangements set up before I leave. We live in San Jose, near the Rose Garden and the Rosicrucian Museum. -- Lissa Shoun "Tiger Tiger" Burning Man Airport Manager, off-season in San Jose (408) 297-9795 On the playa and out of contact from Aug 17 through Sept 9
