All,

Our ability to rescue birds from terrible conditions is entirely dependent on having foster homes for them to go to immediately.  As you all know, we are suspending intake of birds except under the most urgent circumstances.  When we do take in birds -- we must have foster homes for those birds -- we cannot afford to keep them in vet care any longer than is absolutely necessary.  And we will only take them when we MUST take them in.

Two budgies have come into our care because of injuries that will probably result in the loss of one leg for each bird. They were attacked by rats in the pet store where they and the rats were for sale.  The two birds are little more than babies and are very bonded to each other.  We will keep them in the same tank and eventually the same cage.  (Incidentally, Erin deserves a medal for rescuing these two!)

Secondly, a big pet store has two injured birds, a cockatiel and a budgie, that they will surrender to us and that we need to take.  Both have received some medical treatment and will be taken to a vet right away and must then go into a foster home.  These two can probably go through quarantine in the same room, since they appear to have been near each other already.  A volunteer has already negotiated their surrender -- but we need a foster home badly -- and right away.

Please give some thought to this -- the injured budgies in particular may require careful supervision.  We cannot continue to rescue birds without foster homes, so if you can spare a little space, this is the time.

Thank you.
