Hello everyone, I hope someone can help me. A woman in Oakland just had a biopsy done on a "mass" in her lung. She has had cancer in the past and is preparing for the worst. She is coming to us with a difficult request to "foster" this bird for her if she is to go through cancer treatment. It could become a complete surrender situation in the future. Sue's (the woman needing help with her bird) and Ceci's correspondences are attached below. If anyone has room in their home to take care of this bird while her "mom" is going through this rough time, please let me know as soon as possible so we can give this woman a piece of mind that her bird will be in safe hands if she needs treatment. I am not a religious person by any means, but I also do ask that we send healing thoughts her way. This bird is a Blue Crown Mealy Amazon who has been in a one-bird home. From the sounds of things, she has been well taken care of and has been quite spoiled. Thanks for your time! I will also add you to my prayer group. Be prepared for good news! If you need foster care for your bird, Mickaboo will ask you to surrender your bird (legal reasons). I am not sure you are ready to do that at this point. 1. Have you asked a local avian vet if they know anyone who does "bird sitting" who might help you out? I have done this in the past for cancer patients.... but I have to tell you, in the end, the birds always end up relinquished. It is just a matter of time, and how well prepared YOU are. Even if you dodge a bullet, your health will eventually drive you to a decision point that it is time to find a new loving home for your baby. If I lived in the area, I would step up to the plate. If you want to try and work something out, I can take your bird to live with me in Arizona until you are feeling better, at no charge. Here are the caveats: I could pick up the bird sometime in late August, but not before. I have too many things going on prior to late August which will preclude me from doing anything outside of the ordinary with birds. Think about it... and give me a call if you want to chat.
