Hello All, There have been some questions recently about what the action list is to be used for, and so the Mickaboo Tech Team thought it would be a good idea to send out our guidelines on what is allowed and what is not. Recently there was some discussion on the Action List that wasn't really appropriate for the scope of this list, and should have been taken elsewhere. The discussion was accidental, but it did prompt us to put the Action list into 'moderation' status. This means that a Mickaboo Tech Team member has to read and approve each post before it appears on the list, which is certainly not something we want for the list in general. We are sorry if anyone posted something that was either bounced back or rejected, but we also want to do our best to not annoy anyone who expects the Action list to contain only emails about things needing urgent attention. So what is the Action List really supposed to be used for? The Action List should only be used to ask for help with something Mickaboo related, especially if it is urgent. These are things like requests for foster homes, help getting birds to and from a vet office, help transporting birds and cages, and pet sitting of Mickaboo birds (requests to watch non-Mickaboo birds are not allowed). This list is not exhaustive, but in general if it's something you need another Mickaboo Action Hero to help with, it's appropriate for the Action List. The Action List can (and in most cases should) also be used to announce that something previously posted to the list has been handled. What do you do if you think you can help? If you can help with an Action request, you should email the person who put the request out directly. Please do not email your response to the Action List. The details of how something is handled should be done off list. This will help ensure that when someone sees "Mickaboo Action" in their inbox, they know it's a request for help and not something to be deleted without reading. To make this easier, we've changed things so that when you hit the reply button in your email program, it will (hopefully) automatically reply to the sender and not the list. It is always good to check though. Once something is taken care of, it's probably a good idea to let the Action List know. The best way to d this is to send another email to the Action List with the same subject, but with the word HANDLED added. Why are we being so mean about this? We're not trying to be mean. But the Action List was originally implemented so that people who wanted to help Mickaboo but did not want to participate in the normal Mickaboo discussions had the option to subscribe to the single list. Also, by restricting what people post to the Action List, we can help ensure that if you see an email with the subject "URGENT" you know it's an urgent request and not simply a reply to something that was urgent days ago. That way you know the email is something that should be read now and not saved for later or simply deleted without reading. But I think the Action List should be used for... The scope of the action list is certainly something that can change as the needs of Mickaboo change. But, the discussion of what the Action List should be is currently NOT an acceptable topic for the Action List and will be moderated out. If you would like to discuss what the Action List should be used for, please do that on the Discussion List. After all, discussion about all things Mickaboo is exactly what that list if for!
