Hi All! There is a need to transport a seriously ill macaw from the San Rafael area to Holly Street Clinic in San Carlos early tomorrow. Holly Street is open from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM on Sundays. We know little about this bird except that it was seen by a vet on 9/13 and given a very guarded prognosis and the owner refused treatment and took the bird home. The bird has now basically been abandoned, left in a small dog carrier at another vet clinic. The bird is thin, dehydrated, with labored and open mouth breathing and may be exhibiting the symptoms of a debilitating terminal disease. The bird is presently still in the small carrier inside an oxygen chamber. Susan Mini, our Shelter Coordinator, has spoken with Dr. Ferguson who suggested the bird not be moved tonight but definitely must get care from an avian vet tomorrow. Susan plans to pick this bird up tomorrow and take it to work with her at Guide Dogs For The Blind and hopes that someone in that area would be willing to transport the bird to San Carlos. This really is a case of life or death for this poor bird and if you can help please let me know and I'll place you in touch with Susan.
