Robbie beat me to the praises of Amazons, but I need to add my own perspective anyway. To those of you who'd like to try fostering a larger bird, possibly could, but are hesitant due to that big beak or Amazon reputation, We had a limited bird resume when Claudia sent out an Amazon plea about a year ago. We had only known a budgie (long ago) and two recent cockatiels adopted through Mickaboo. Never having experience with a large bird, I was very nervous, but wanted to help very badly. I had always hoped to work with a larger bird some day, but never intended it to be an Amazon. Through Claudia's guidance and willingness to take it easy with us, we came to love this species. Three fosters came through our household. Each had a different personality and brought their own joy. They were theatrical, funny, and fun. I got over my first bite (not too bad), and then learned how to avoid being bitten. They were all artless. There was no subterfuge. They made plain their emotions, and so became rather easy to "read". We don't have fosters right now due to our family situation, which unfortunately restricts us having any larger birds for a while. However, I look forward to the time I can give another Amazon a safe haven. Please consider these guys. Claudia's ranks of mentors sounds like it's expanded, so there is lots of help out there for you. Paula
