It's been a long week. I'm tired, and am watching the end of Notting Hill- but not near enough to the end to feel good. Perhaps I am wrong, but are they expecting too much? My Murphy is nippy with most people, but rarely with me, and I have no idea how Donna taught him "love" where he leans his head into her palm, and now mine, and relaxes. He is a joy. When he came to me, I was determined that this was his last stop, of at least 4, for better or worse he was mine, and we would work through whatever. It was a bit painful along the way, but I cannot imagine him being anywhere but with me. I don't think they should expect any interaction between the bird and the baby until the baby is at least 11, which is the age one is eligible to become a Boy Scout. Boundaries? Adult shoulders, adult arms/hands, playpen and cage. That's it, and with clipped wings, he's captive, n'est pas? I would be glad to stop by, even more than once, but me thinks we may be having this conversation with Dr. Phil in 10 years- and not about the bird! :-) Easy for me to say, after 3 + a stepdaughter, and as the only thing in this household NOT spoiled.. With any luck, I expect my birds to outlive me, and be lined up along one wall of my service, outnumbered but not outclassed by the many firefighters that I raised from a pup. Hi! I have been communicating with a family who has a Hans Macaw and a brand new baby. They do not believe they have done a good job with the little macaw, because he is nippy, and appears not to have any boundaries. Initially they wanted to surrender to Mickaboo but now are willing to work with the bird because they love him desperately (and of course their baby too). They are in the Marysville,Roseville,Sacto area. Can anyone recommmend a qualified bird behaviorist, who will not charge them an arm and a leg? Thanks.
