Just my $ .02 - but I think every bird caretaker should have a gram scale, especially those of you who foster Mickaboo birds. Often a bird will be on antibiotics and lose its appetite - as we know birds have high metabolisms and need to eat. If they don't they can rapidly lose weight and develop fatty liver problems (the liver's response to starvation). Often, too, birds experience stress from a recent change of home environments and don't eat well, which can result in the same compromised health. When I have a foster bird it is weighed every other day for the first month and then twice a month there after - the schedule I keep with my own birds.
