Help!! My computer is out to get me. I cannot get messages to some people from my home computer. This message was meant for Claudia. Sorry for the mass emailing. Angela and Richard from Anaheim Heights are interested in adopting 2 macaws. Their rescued macaw died about 2 weeks ago. Angela is quite devastated. They rescued this macaw from an elderly couple. The bird belonged to the husband and when the husband died his wife did not know how to properly care for Robert (later discovered to be Roberta after an egg was laid). Roberta broke her leg and did not get treatment. The leg became gangrenous. Richard and Angela took the bird in before or after (I'm not sure) the leg was amputated. They really went through a lot with this bird and from what I gathered loved this bird intensely. In fact they prefer special needs birds. They described a lot of the care and accomodations they made for Roberta. They seem to have a lot of space and describe having a very large cage that makes a macaw look small when inside the cage. ("like a canary in an aviary"). The cage is supposed to be a cage for 2 macaws. I've asked them to fill out an application and told them about the adoption process. My gut feeling is that these people would make wonderful parents. I don't know about what accomodations mickaboo makes for qualified adopters living so far away. We also have people ready to transport the birds and their things as soon as final addresses are known. [Mickaboo Action] Adoption Fair in February

This is a very important date and I want to start reminding all of our foster families to keep it on their radar. On February 25th, we are planning an adoption fair in San Ramon. We have learned that meeting our birds in person is the first step to falling in love. If there is any way you can bring your Mickaboo foster bird(s) to the adoption fair, please plan to come. No birds will be adopted at this event -- this is strictly a "get acquainted" activity -- sort of like an old fasioned ice cream social! [Mickaboo Action] Big Bird Foster Homes ASAP

Hello! You haven't heard from me for a few days but here I am begging for your help - Yes you! Please don't think about hitting Delete before you finish this message. We have quite a few large birds that need to be surrendered but I do not have a home available. These two listed below are intakes that should happen ASAP. Cupid - 25 year old Double Yellow Head Amazon female - very very hormonal and in need of medical intervention, diet and weight loss, adequate sleep, and environmental changes. According to her last vet she can live a quality life by lowering her estrogen levels through injections every couple of months, improving types of foods she eats, a healthier weight, and an environment where she is not overstimulated and is given opportunities for exercise and activity. Her current owner is unable to manage the discipline required to make these changes and does not have the money for vet bills. This is a sweet natured bird but is on self destruct without the medical management required. She prefers women, loves kids, is comfortable in a home with cats, sings opera, and clucks like a chicken. Dr. Sanders at WIldwood in Portola Valley is her vet and we would like Cupid to stay with Dr. Sanders if possible. Quetters - 18 year old B&G macaw, probably female. Owner is dealing with elderly parents and has personal medical issues and Quetters is not receiving any attention. Owner says this is a nice bird who enjoys company. She is used to women and small dogs. Placement location is not an issue with this bird. Our goal with incoming birds is to place them in a stable environment until the right adoptive home is found. Unfortunately during the holidays with scheduled trips and company coming, some foster homes are not available. If you would be able to take either of these birds for the short term that would at least get them out of difficult situations and we can do a better job of placement after the end of the year. These are fairly big birds with big caging requirements. Please let me know if you can help. Thanks for considering these ladies. We really need someone to be Sue Walters' "Animal Shelter Manager" buddy! In other words, someone to make sure all the information for the 'toos is kept up to date in our bird tracking software. Not time-consuming. I would say an hour or two a week at the very most. Thanks for considering it! --Nancy

[Mickaboo Action] budgies in Sacramento and Bay areas - HELP!!

I know sometimes it feels like foster birds only come in and never go home. But honest, we do have lots of new adopters coming into the fold. In the meantime, we have a pair of budgies coming out of the Placer shelter that need a foster home -- Francie went out on a long limb because she rescued them from the shelter, but she has no more quarantine space left. (This is a lady with a houseful of critters!) So it's time for someone over in the Big Valley to help rescue Francie. Please take these budgies into your hearts for Christmas. In the Bay Area, we have a similar situation -- a family took budgies from the San Francisco shelter under the pending threat of something dire, and now we need to find a longer term foster home for them. These are two little boys (posted as Luca and Petrie) who already have their own blog (check it out, the link is posted with their story on the Mickaboo website).
