[Mickaboo Action] New foster homes REALLY needed for SF conures!

Good morning all, I have more information on the conures that Jennifer has taken in and what their medical requirements are. I'm hoping this will help you all understand better their needs and how swamped Jennifer is with four ill birds as well as her own two to look after. LOMBARD has a sprained wing, and will be in a wing splint for a month. He's on Cipro (2x a day), Panacur (1x), and Metacam (1x), and needs oral feedings (2x). WILLOW has a broken leg. She'll be in a cast for a month or more. She also likes to pick at it at lot. She's also on Cipro (2x), Panacur (1x), and Metacam (1x). ELLIS also has a broken leg, as well as a big bite on her beak, and got seen by Dr. F yesterday. She'll be in a cast for a month, too. Ellis needs Injectable Claforan (2x a day), Panacur (1x), and Metacam (1x). GENEVA finally fell asleep in her water dish one too many times, and now has a sinus infection. She's getting Cipro (2x) and 30-minute nebulizing treatments (2x). Most medicines are for 2 weeks or so, so Willow and Lombard would have only a week or so to go. I know the babies are easy to towel and give meds to (when I was giving meds to Peter Pan, he would actually sit between my legs and then just tilt his head and take his medicine so long as I let him play with the oral syringe afterwards!) Once these birds are done with their meds, they'd just need a continued loving and warm home to give them time to heal, give them human love (Willow and Ellis are both babies and trust me, they are not only incredibly cute as babies, but they are happy to be loved!), and teach them about toys and a good diet. Please, if you can help, let me know. Jennifer is overwhelmed right now and there's the possibility of more birds coming in to us in the coming weeks, now that we have people watching the flock for injured members. [Mickaboo Action] URGENT -- Love bird transfer needed ASAP

Please, folks, we have a chain of birdie-dominos that are about to fall. We have a shelter rescue (out of the notorious Martinez shelter) lovebird who is in a temporary foster home, occupying the quarantine space promised to an Amazon who also must move from his present location. Now that the holidays are slipping away, please gird up your loins (er...you know what I mean) and help us with this one. If you cannot help with this lovie yourself, but can think of someone who has adopted or fostered from us before -- PLEASE make the call. [Mickaboo Action] shelter budgies

All, I hope all of you had a happy Christmas or Hanukkah, and that you are ready for a happy New Year. We are facing a new year much like the past one. There is a budgie in the Silicon Valley Humane Society shelter, and another in the Palo Alto shelter. Neither of these shelters are really set up to take care of birds, and I hate to leave anybody there for very long. The SVHS budgie has been there for a month now. She really needs to come out, but we need a foster home for her. If anyone can offer one or both of these budgies a foster home, please let me know. Thank you and Happy New Year, all. Michelle bc

Ya, and if anyone out there within our group speaks Vietnamese, please let "Rico" and I know! Seriously, Rico spent 5 years with an old Vietnameese man who did not speak english and believe me, the 7 months Rico has been here, he still looks at me like I'm a little off in the head.

Hi! Recently I posted for a foster home for Roberto, a 15 year old unknown species of amazon, and received several offers to foster. However, I have since learned that Roberto has lived in a home where the only language spoken was Chinese. Do we have any amazon foster families who speak Chinese that might be willing to take him? He will be going through a lot of stress losing his home and his elderly owners and it might make him more comfortable if he understood what people say to him. He MUST be moved before January 15th. Hi there-- We're designing new promotional material for Mickaboo. One of the new brochures will be titled "Donate". We'd like to get a picture of a bird with a bill held in his claws or beak (claws would be best). Anybody have a bird that would do that??? Also, another brochure will be titled "Learn" and will talk about our bird care classes. Anyone like to give a little testimonial about the usefulness of our classes? [Mickaboo Action] Hawk-caught macaw in San Jose - UPDATE

"Fortuna" is now at FTB. S/he is a yellow collared macaw. S/he has puncture wounds on her chest and back.
