Basic Bird Care class
Everyone interested in fostering or adopting a bird must attend our class on bird care prior to receiving a bird from us. These classes are free (although donations are appreciated) and are open to the general bird-loving public.
At this time, we are only offering the class online via Zoom. These classes are held every 2-3 weeks, alternating between Saturdays and Sundays. Links to register for these classes and the latest dates are available below. If you cannot make this time, you can email class@mickaboo.org and we will occasionally arrange an ad-hoc phone class for smaller groups.
The class is approx 3-3.5hrs long, however you can attend part of it and sign up for as many classes as you need to in order to complete the full class over time.
Upcoming Classes
Registrants must have internet access and either a smartphone, laptop, or desktop computer, to participate. We will be showing materials online, so please ensure you can both hear and watch us. Plan on logging into the Zoom link 15 minutes before the session starts, so that technical difficulties may be worked out. Please join by a zoom link on a phone, tablet, or laptop to take part in the Zoom classes. If you join by "phone only" you will be unable to complete the class quiz, and therefore we will not be able to identify you or confirm your participation.
- Proper avian care
- Proper avian diet
- Symptoms of illness and first aid
- General husbandry
- Hazards, and safety
And much much more...
Criteria for adopting/fostering a bird from us can be found on our How to Adopt page.
If you are under 18
Everyone is welcome to take the class! Please note that if you are interested in fostering or adopting and you are under 18, a parent or legal guardian must also attend the class and own any application to foster or adopt. Please ensure that your parent/legal guardian registers separately in their own right.
*Attendance of a non-Mickaboo hosted class does not fulfill the Mickaboo education requirement in our adoption application.
