Update 6/5/06: Now fully grown into an adult budgie Sage has a yellow crest, a double spotted bib and the longest tail feathers. His coloring is still has the beautiful greeny/blue sheen that gave him his name Sage. This is one entertaining and lively, healthy, happy budgie who sings and chatters ?budgie talk?. Sage loves to play and chew his toys, he also enjoys talking and playing with the ?other budgies? he sees in his mirrors. Sage now eats Harrison?s pellets, human grade millet and avian cakes. Sage?s favorite food of all is mustard greens, though he is happy eating other greens and yams too. He loves to have a shower, and to play in water ? including his drinking water; he also loves to take a ?mustard greens bath?. Although Sage is used to being around humans, he?s still a little timid. He says: ?I may not yet "step-up" too well out of my cage, but I?m learning and I won't bite you when you bring me out for ?out-time play?. Once out of my cage, I do try to "step-up" nicely and allow head rubs.? Sage adds: ?This is a nice place to stay, but I really want a ?forever home? with someone who loves me. I?ll make you a happy pet; my foster mom says I?m a sweetie and have lots of potential. I do like being with other budgies too if you have them.?
Hi, my name is Sage. I'm a very young budgie who was turned into a shelter by a social worker who didn't have a happy story to tell about my life. So here I am, on my own, out in the big world. While I haven't had a happy life yet, I'm very young. Even though I'm nervous right now, very young budgies can be taught to be very friendly. A kind voice, good food, and gentleness are all it takes (well, and maybe a little persistence). In person, I'm a dusty gray-green, reminiscent of sage leaves. The flash on a camera brings out the blue and silver and other colors in my feathers -- sort of like the hidden beauty that a kind person could bring out in my personality. Remember, my name is Sage, and I'm a happy ending waiting to happen. Story posted on: December 10, 2005
