UPDATE 9/1/05 from Piper's foster home: "Piper is a joy to watch and oh-so lovely. She continues to be a tough 'lil gal, and although she's still not trusting of humans and their hands, she's definitely more at ease. She loves to splash around in her bathtub and chew on her toys. Piper keeps her lovely figure with a diet of Harrison's, carrot sticks, and all kinds of fruit. Add a daily workout of wing flapping, climbing, and acrobatics, and you've got one amazing girl. Although she'll keep you at wing's length and isn't keen on stepping up on your hand or sitting on your shoulder, she wants to be around her flock and will call out for you if you leave the room for a while. She enjoys having people and other birds nearby. We think Piper would absolutely love a nice, roomy place for all that exercise (an aviary, perhaps) and maybe a friend or two." Hey there! My name is Piper, and I'm an albino ringneck parakeet. I might be small, but I'm tough, and I know how to take care of myself. I was doing a pretty good job of it too, until I dropped from exhaustion at a street corner in San Jose. I was so tired, I couldn't even fly anymore. Someone found me, scooped me up, and took me to a shelter. A few days later, a Mickaboo volunteer came and took me home with him. I don't trust my new foster dad quite yet, but then, you have to be careful when you're a tough street kid like me. Of course, deep down inside, I'm not really all that tough. I watch my foster dad give scritches to the other parrots in the house, and I'm thinking that I might like to get scritched like that too. It's going to take a lot of patience to convince me that I can trust humans enough to let them pet me, but when the time comes, it's going to be a wonderful experience for both of us. So what do you say? Want to take me home and get started?
