I've been happily adopted, but check below for a list of other sweet birds who need a home!

It was a dark and stormy night or maybe it was a breezy winter day, but I made a run for it. Even with a raggedy looking wing trim, I got up, up and away. It was getting close to Valentine's Day and being a sweetheart myself, I was trying to make a delivery. Must have gotten off course because I found myself in a local humane society with a number instead of a name. Nobody came to look for me, so a really nice foster mom from Mickaboo picked me up and took me home. Now my name is Joel. I'm a Lilac Crown Amazon, one of the smaller species, and my mom thinks I'm probably a young bird because my beak and feet are in really good shape. My new people think I had good care along the way because I am gentle, mild mannered, and don't bite. I'm comfortable with dogs, cats, kids, the vacuum -- I'm just an easygoing guy! I love to climb in and out of my cage and will entertain myself with toys all day. I'm a little shy about this Step Up business, but I'm not too shy to love head scritches. I like it when people talk to me. I cock my head a certain way and whistle back. I am a quiet bird too. I do like to whistle, but not too loud. I have a hearty appetite for pellets, but show a certain disdain for fruits and vegetables right now. I didn't get to make my Valentine's Day delivery, but I still have all the love waiting to give to someone special who is willing to work to establish trust between us. If Valentine's Day didn't work out the way you planned either, how about getting to know me? Story posted on: February 23, 2006
