It may be April, but he's no fool! Cotton, the cockatoo, is Mickaboo's featured bird of the month. Cotton is a very, very handsome 8 year old Umbrella cockatoo in wonderful feather. Along with his stunning good looks he has many other great qualities including eating an extremely healthy diet of several types of pellets, and other good foods like warm cereal, bananas, grapes, and walnuts. He plays with his toys with extreme gusto-especially those that can be chewed up! He looks forward to having you put new toys into his cage such as pine blocks and bright colored plastic toys. When he was a youngster he liked folks of all ages and genders. However, since he was three, he only "cottons to" men. He's made it quite clear that he will only bond with men. Two failed foster- to-adopt placements can attest to that. He simply would not accept "the wife." That said, he can be a wonderful companion for an all male household. He loves attention, wants to be held, will hang out on a perch or play stand for hours and hours and is wonderful company. Cotton can say a few human words such as, "Hello, Cotton!" and "Hello, Sweetheart!" He also does the typical 'too ~early am and dusk vocalizations. If he gets the proper amount of sleep each night, 12-14 hours, this can be reduced considerably. He is apprehensive in a strange environment and will bite if frightened. This can be curbed with careful attention and planning. So what do you think? Do you have what it takes to appreciate a bird with good looks and extreme self confidence? Do you live in an all-male household? If so perhaps you can single Cotton out for your lifelong feathered companion bird.
