6/25/08 Update
HEY, man, what's happening? Let me tell you about my girlfriend Ashbury, man. She's a pretty cool chick, let me tell ya, she's like WAY groovy. We like to hang out and chew some rope together in our foster pad, man, it's really happenin'. She, like, broke her wing awhile back man, really psychedelic, but she's OKAY now. It's really out of sight how good she can fly now, man, even though her wings are clipped. We get it on really groovy man.

Every now and then, I get this far out flashback about this square hawk. It was a real bad scene, you dig? He was trying to, you know EAT me man, but he got busted. It would have blown your mind, real heavy man, such a drag. But, like, you know, I FORGIVE him though, man, that's his bag. He just doesn't understand the peace and free love we're trying to, like REALIZE here against the establishment, man. And my beak is growing back in a happening way. I can dig it man.

So, ya' know, we're sort of looking for a new crash pad, man. A far out place where we can hang out and chill, like ya' know man? SO, I gotta split, ya'know? Live, love and laugh man. Peace out and have a groovy day.

Ashbury: Nice to meet you, I'm Ashbury - one of the conures from the famous Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill flock in San Francisco. I came into Mickaboo when they got a call from animal control about me. I had come into the shelter with a broken wing, so Mickaboo took me in and got me to a vet.

The vet isn't sure I'll ever have proper use of my wing again, and since I'm a baby and missing out on important time with my parents learning to live in the wild even if my wing heals properly, I can't be released into the flock again - but luckily we baby cherryheads tame very quickly and love the friends we find in our new human families.

Haight: I'm a very lucky bird. I was just a baby when I was attacked by a hawk. (Ashbury came into Mickaboo earlier the same day that I did, and since he was named Ashbury it made sense for my name to be Haight - because I tell ya, I Haight hawks!) Anyway, someone saw it happen and chased after the hawk, and when I was dropped they rushed me to animal control. They know to call Mickaboo, and so I was rushed to a vet because I had some serious injuries from the hawk attack including a huge hole in my beak!

The vet did a fabulous job patching my beak (that's the yellow stuff you see in my picture). The patch will wear off in time and I'll have to go back in to have another one applied, but it looks like my beak is growing back, so everyone is hopeful that I'll be ok in time.

I won't be able to be released back into the flock either, but I have Ashbury to keep me company, so neither of us is totally alone. If you're interested in adopting us, please click on the link to email the conure coordinator and let her know!
