UPDATE 5/3/05: "Cricket is doing very well! His first annual checkup showed him to be in perfect health and disposition, which was no surprise, given his varied diet (loves Harrisonís pellets) and the exercise he has from constant play. He has adjusted well to his new, roomy cage, but always prefers to be out and about, helping us perform household tasks. He is no longer invited to help me with desk work, however, after having lost the "down arrow" key on my laptop to his curiosity! Cricket grows more comfortable with each day that passes and constantly asks for scritches by demonstrating the act with his own little foot. Although he is still certain to communicate his opposition to certain acts (like going back into his cage), he seems to have learned that nipping is not an effective approach, which is a welcome advancement. Cricket has definitely become a permanent and welcome member of the flock!" Lucky me! I may not be a Cricket on the hearth, but I'm a Cricket with a home! I'm a red-bellied parrot who was surrendered to an animal shelter. Fortunately, Mickaboo found a great guy to foster me and now he has decided he can't live without me. He lets me spend time out of my cage so I can satisfy my curious streak. I step up nicely but sometimes he asks me to do something I don't really want to do, and then I admit I get a bit "beaky." We are working on this. I also use my beak for doing the "snowplow" routine around the countertop. My other tricks include a repertoire of head bobs and throwing myself on my back. (That lets me show off the red belly.) We have quiet times, too, when I snuggle under his chin (that's why humans have chins, right?), or preen his hair, and in exchange I get scritched. To me, that's the definition of a good home and a Mickaboo success!
