Hi! I'm the new bird on the block! I landed in my last home by accident and sheer luck. I was a stray and somehow lost my long tail feathers and was grounded near a freeway when along came some nice folk who said "Wow, what is a Blue & Gold macaw doing sitting on that pile of dirt?" It was me - wings and landing gear in tact but rudder missing. I have been seen by an avian vet and I am good to go. The other good news is I am friendly, interactive, chatty (including some "potty mouth" words), and know how to step up. With or without the long macaw tail feathers, I am just one fabulous bird and hope some of you will want to meet me in the very near future. Stay tuned for updates. Update: 4/08/08 Tail feathers are growing! I'm a pretty girl!! Update 12/19/07. Gaaaaaggh! I've been to the vet and you don't even want to know what I went through. The vet thinks I am probably less than 10 years old and in pretty good shape considering what I have been through. The jury is out on why I don't have long tail feathers but the doctor says they are coming in so we will see what happens. I'm a good guy or gal and have blended nicely with my foster family. Get me while the getting's good or someone else may fall in love with me. Put me on your list of New Year's resolutions - please. Update 1/15/08. I've been to the vet a couple of times and still no answer on why I have no tail feathers. On the foster home front, I am doing SO WELL! My foster mom is impressed with how friendly I am. I love to have attention and call out if I feel neglected - not a big screaming fit but just enough so she can't ignore me. I like to chat and am learning new words and seem to be leaving the "potty mouth" in the past. Somewhere in my history I have been loved because I say "I love you" and make a lot of joyful sounds. I like to hang with my mom and look out the window and have some "you and me" time. I'm learning to play too. There are "kids" in this home and I will tell you up front I don't like them much. They make me nervous so if you are thinking about me for the kids forget it. Get one of those fuzzy macaws at Target. Update 3/25/08: The test results are in and DNA doesn't lie. I am a sweet GIRL. Everyone was betting I was a BIG BOY and if they placed a money bet they lost.
