Hi! My name is Cooper, a 20 something Blue & Gold female macaw. I just joined Mickaboo after living a sparse existence with little interaction or exercise for the last 10 years. Two other birds and I were left with the spouse of my former owner many years ago and that person not being much into birds just kept us going. A nice neighbor learned of our plight and began to work toward a happier life for all of us. This nice neighbor is caring for my two bird buddies and I came to Mickaboo. I'm not at my best right now - seriously underweight, years of poor nutrition, a cage made from toxic metal, no toys, and left to live outside for all this time. Tonight, however, I am in a big clean macaw cage with a swing and new toys, and clean dishes and some good food coming up soon. I'm in a family home with children and although I'm pretty rough around the edges and not well socialized, I enjoyed watching them looking at me and said "Hello" quite a few times. Nice kids said "Hello" right back. I also say "Cracker" in a really loud voice. I'm probably going to be sitting on the side lines as far as adoption goes for a while until I gain some weight and get a clean bill of health. So, when the cold wind blows and the rain comes down and you are safe and warm in your nice house, just remember now I am safe and warm in a nice house too. Mickaboo is the best! Update 3/31/08 Guess what? I am getting ready to move again. My foster mom has some health challenges and although she loved me so much that I was going to stay, she has decided I better move. Good thing Mickaboo is still around because I will be in another bird friendly family soon. I want to tell you about my relationship with men. They are ok as long as they have hair. I don't like bald and just go berserk. If you like me and you are a hair challenged male you will have to wear a hat. Funny huh! Update 4/06/08. Moved to my new foster home and I'm lovin it here. I like my foster parents a lot but the kids and I are trying to get a sense of each other. If you are interested in adopting a big bird like me, you need to start teaching your kids about respect, space, soft voices, gentle hands. The last thing I need is for some high energy kids to come tearing into my space all talking at once trying to feed me, touch me, and boy do my nerves get rattled. Remember I used to live all alone in a chicken coop for years with no one to pay any attention. Take it slow with me and I'll learn to trust the big ones and the little ones too. Come meet me, huh?
