Update 06/18/2009
I am at a very special foster home with some other cockatoo friends. I am undergoing some rehabilitation to help me deal with some issues that might prevent me from being successful in an adoptive home right now. Please check back on me in a few months to see how I am doing!
Update 6/5/09: Unfortunately, Giorgio was returned by his foster family. Initially he did wonderfully- he even grew back all of his feathers! Suddenly, ater a few months, he became fearful of his mom! No one can figure out why- no new hair do or anything! Vet check up included a behavioral consult but no trigger can be found. He trembled when she walked into the room- as much as they loved him they could not bear to see him afraid anymore so he is now with Mickaboo and available for adoption. Giorgio is a sensitive little guy and seems to prefer men.
Goffins are the fun loving cockatoos and I'm one of them! My name is Giorgio, or Giorgie, and I'm a friendly little guy if you're my "chosen one". I'm a good eater... I prefer Harrison's coarse pellets, and I eat plenty of them! I love a mix of rice, veggies and pasta the best. Fuji apples are one of my favorite food choices as well. I get my fresh foods each day, around dinner time, but if my family waits too long, I get underneath my bowl and push it around to tell you I'm hungry. I love to chew. I'm a playful bird with a preference for wood chew toys. My family teases me and calls me "Chicken George", because it takes me quite awhile to warm up to a new toy or perch. I prefer to be covered with a blanket at night - it makes me feel more secure. In case you are reading this I'm gonna go ahead and put in a plug for us Goffins, as far as adopting a parrot companion. We are a playful bunch, love to hop, climb and bob our heads up and down. Toys, swings and boings are LOTS of fun. Some of us can learn quite a few words too. We usually make very good companions and are quite devoted to our owners. The best word to describe a Goffins cockatoo is d-e-l-i-g-h-t-f-u-l!
