UPDATE 3/28/08: Carey went in for a re-check and his heart sounds great! He has lost some weight and checked out well overall. Carey is ready for adoption! Can you give this little boy a loving home to call his own? Oh, one more thing! You may think that Carey looks familiar....he was formerly "Cara". His foster mom had him DNA sexed and Carey is male; hence the name change.

I was rescued from a big pet store because I did not look well due to a chest injury. A Mickaboo volunteer picked me up and took me straight to an avian vet. An EKG shows that I have an enlarged heart in addition to the injuries sustained to my chest. I am being well cared for by a wonderful Mickaboo volunteer. I have other cockatiels here in my home to keep me company. My foster mom says that I am a bit timid and flighty but very sweet and calm once away from my cage. Somehow I lost most of my tail feathers so that poses a challenge when it comes to flight and landing but they are growing in slowly but surely. I eat pellets and love my millet sprays as a treat every once in awhile. I play with and tear up my greens but my foster mom is not too sure if I am actually eating them! I am not big on trying new foods....they are a bit suspect to me. If I am being held, I will lower my head for careful scritches and make a beautiful trillling sound.
I am not sure when I will be released from medical treatment to go to my forever home but if you think I'd be a good addition to your family, please call Mickaboo and ask about me. I will need careful monitoring and regular visits to an avian vet but I promise I will bring lots of love and joy into your life.
