update (3/26/2007): Pepper may still be in her "honeymoon" period at her foster family home but they said she's just a doll. She loves to eat, loves to be held, loves to take showers. She's a bit more vocal than she was initially but that's only because she is feeling "right at home". She's very socialized, good with kids and adults alike, and lets you know if you've gone too many hours without stopping by to give her a head scritch or two! I'm a Pepper...I mean Hi, I'm Pepper. I'm the newest addition to Mickaboo's Cockatoo list. I have some bad, and some good, in my past life and also some unknowns. Several months ago I was found flying around loose and a nice man found me and kept me for a few months. I think he meant well, but he only knew about cockatiels and kept me in a 'tiel sized cage and fed me only cockatiel seed mix and apples. Normally cockatoos wouldn't eat such food but a 'too's got to do what a 'toos got to do -- Eat! So I did. He also, on a couple of occasions, let me fly free in the neighborhood -- weeeeeeee it was it fun -- well, until I remembered that's how I got lost in the first place -- and also that a hawk could've easily swooped down and had me for dinner. Whew! I was lucky! Well, after a few months the guy decided he wasn't really a cockatoo sort of fellow and surrendered me to Mickaboo. So here I am! Since I was found flying free it's obvious my original owner didn't believe in clipping wings. Since I can't talk human talk well enough, I can't tell you where I came from, so no one knows if it was a good life of a bad life. Since I'm a sweet little thing, it was probably pretty good. I'm very affectionate, love out of cage time and boy am I lovin' all the pasta, pellets and veggie my foster mom keep shoveling in my dishes. Yummmmmy! I haven't been here long so you may not have seen my full personality yet. So check back here soon for an update! In the meantime I'll be scanning adoption applications to see if who out there seems the best fit for my new family. Notice: Due to the notoriously difficult nature of cockatoos, Mickaboo prefers that cockatoos not be a households' first parrot.
