UPDATE 8/22/07: From Gwin's new adoptive home! "My husband and I are really enjoying Gwin. He is finally starting to warm up to me. Of course, Scott is still his favorite. He says something new every week and plays with his toys until they're destroyed. His chest feathers are still on the thin side but thicker than when he first arrived. He tries all sorts of food and is always trying to drink out of my husbands water glass.
I'm an older sort of fellow- middle-aged -oh, around 25 years old or so. The name's Gwin. No one is really sure where the name Gwin came from, but it is said I'm a male. If you google, "Gwin" you'll come up with a cartoony type character figurine. I'm not a cartoon character, but I am rather funny. In fact after my limo driver picked me up from a bay area humane society shelter I kept her giggling all the way home. I would laugh and laugh, then sigh. If I thought she looked little tired I let out a "wooooo"! to make sure she was wide awake and alert. After all, she was taking me to my new foster home and I wanted to make sure I got there. Unfortunately, I was at that shelter for nearly 3 months. They treated me just fine though- a nice cage with LOTS of toys. I even shared the boss' office! They thought for sure that someone would want to adopt me right away! Apparently none in that area likes the 'plucked' look though. Good news-I am fully downy feathered on my chest and legs where I had been plucking. I'll bet you would've done some plucking too if you had moved from a long term home! My new friends tell me they think I won't pluck any more once I get settle down and feel comfortable again. Initially I seemed to have a strong preference for men however the shelter gals say, I'm coming around though. I lost a bit of weight recently so the vet has prescribed a high potency pellet. So far it seem to be doing the trick! Now that I've got the weight and plucking issues resolved I just need a home. Do you have a spare cage at your place? I'm an easy going kind of roommate- I promise!
