UPDATE 4/1/05 Here is a report from Daisy's foster mom: Daisy is doing excellent. She is like a different bird. When I got her she would just beat herself bloody in her cage. I think the reason Daisy used to flop around in her cage so violently is she hadn't had any human contact. If she did, I think she had forgotten about it. But she is very happy now. She has calmed down so much and she spends all of her time out of her cage when I am home. However, her wing feathers still have not grown in...only the very long ones on the tips of her wings. Other than that she is very healthy and happy. She still won't let me touch her, but she "talks" to me and she is doing really well. She goes right to bed when she sees me lock the door at night and is ready to come out as soon as I get up in the morning. There is no more nervous pacing or flopping around in her cage."
Not all parrots are chunky green tanks, you know! I'm Daisy and I'm a graceful yellow beauty--a ringneck parakeet. Right now, I?m still quite nervous and jumpy, but I have calmed down some since joining the action in my foster home bird room. But don't think I pay attention only to birds. There?s a young girl here (my foster sister?) and I love to listen to her talk to me. Sometimes we sit on the floor of the bathroom together and she reads to me. This gives me a chance to run around without getting into trouble. I try to talk back and get pretty vocal in the evenings. My foster mom says it sounds like I mumble and laugh and then make a sound like a car alarm. I chatter to the budgies here, just to let them know they aren't the only "parakeets" in the world. I don't like pellets at all, but I love my fruits and vegetables. When served anything I don't like, I just throw it away, then wash what is left in my water dish and chow down. That's how I keep my girlish figure even though I don't have enough wing feathers for flying yet. We ringnecks are very skillful in the air, you know. So if you would like a bit of avian grace in your life, and you aren't expecting a lot of silly cuddling, I may be just the right bird beauty for you.
