Updated 6/14/06: Alli worked her way into my heart almost immediately. She is a very sweet, mild mannered little bird. She quit being nippy after just a few days of living with us. She gets very excited when I enter the room -leaning forward and fluttering her wings. Head rubs are A OK with her! She?s still not clear on the step-up thing but will allow me to simply pick her entire body up from behind. She?s such a good bird and will stay on her cage all day long. Every once in awhile something startles her and she?ll flutter off her cage to the floor. You?d think the floor was hot or something as she literally RUNS back to her cage and climbs back up to the top as fast as she can. It? really funny to watch. She?s not too sure about the sounds of what she thinks is another conure in the other room. She gets quiet and cocks her head, listening intently. Her sibling, an African Grey, in the other room, mimics her high pitched squeal with perfect accuracy. My husband is quite taken with her as well and affectionately calls her ?Squeaky.?
Hey, sweet cheeks, want to meet a green cheek? I'm Alli, a green cheek conure. For some reason I was surrendered to an animal shelter. I don't know why. I'm bright-eyed, active, playful, intelligent, friendly, and not terribly loud. Though it may take me a while to become comfortable with a new person, I definitely like people and am used to handling. I'm seriously considering stepping up and will probably be glad to, once I know the person who owns the offered finger. You don't need to worry about my diet. I eat seed and pellets, love spray millet and nuts, and will nibble fruits and veggies. When a new dish of food comes, I run to check it out. Maybe soon I'll do more than nibble that fresh stuff. I'm a bit of an escapte artist, but my foster mom has figured out how to use clips to foil my efforts. Too bad she is almost as smart as I am. I can be a little nippy but don't inflict major damage. Once I am feeling at home, even those nips may be history. We green cheeks have a reputation for adapting to a variety of situations and I've certainly settled into my foster home quickly. Now I'm hoping to settle into a forever home where I can dance cheek to cheek with a special someone.
