UPDATE 9/1/06: Jo is a sweet and gentle bird who steps up readily. Because of family changes, Jo's adopter can't keep her, but she describes Jo this way. "To me Jo is the perfect parrot. I truly love her. She is sweet, funny, and happy. She vocalizes moderately." Hi! I'm Jo, and I am definitely a bird on the go. I'm a Double Yellow Head Amazon about 30 years old, and after years of just sitting on the perch in my little ole cage watching life pass me by, I found some get up and go. So I got up and went. In a matter of a couple weeks, I left my old home of 25 years, taking bits and pieces of my former life including an old friend Mert. We were picked up by a Mickaboo volunteer and went to live with a foster family. I made myself at home - eating a lot, talking up a storm, but my friend and I weren't very healthy so we moved again to a vet clinic and then again to another vet clinic that specialized in birds. I was finally released to return to my new family and we are getting to know each other for real this time. I am still a good eater but now I'm eating the good stuff - pellets, and veggies, and fruit. My old cage really needed an extreme makeover, and Mickaboo put me in a much bigger one with great toys. My foster mom lets me out of the cage and I'm breathing lots of fresh air and working on some exercise. We are also working on Step Up with a perch stick, and I've got that down pat. I'm feeling so good I've been clucking like a chicken and crowing like a rooster. Speaking of extreme makeover, you'll notice my beak is extra long and I was hoping I'd be selected for The Swan show. My doctor thinks maybe I was born this way, and it really doesn't bother me a bit. If you think you might like to meet a natural blonde, a little long in the beak, who can tickle your fancy with barnyard calls, please call Mickaboo and ask for Jo. Notice: Due to the sometimes difficult nature of amazons, Mickaboo prefers that amazons not be a households' first parrot.
