Psitticine Beak and Feather Disease (PBFD) is a contagious and usually fatal disease generally contracted by very young birds. Blair and his friend Benny came to Mickaboo with PBFD. The disease was not immediately fatal, and the two English budgies were given hospice care in the home of a Mickaboo volunteer until Blair finally succumbed to the illness. We are grateful that we were able to offer this service, which requires quarantine in a home that has no other birds. It is only possible because of the kindness of very special volunteers. As a result, Blair ended his life in comfortable circumstances and in his friend Benny's company. Notice: Due to the highly social nature of parakeets, unless a household currently includes a parakeet, Mickaboo generally requires that a minimum of two parakeets be adopted. Print this page |
