Leo succumbed after a short illness. He was a tough little budgie, but an adrenal gland tumor was too much for him. Like all Mickaboo birds, he was well cared for even at the very end of his life. We didn't give up on him until he was ready to go. UPDATE:"Welcome to the Mickaboo soap opera -- As the World Flies. After all of the trauma of the glue trap (including the aspirated oil), things are beginning to improve for this little budgie. The terrible experiences he went through were probably responsible for his bad temper and ferocity. But we are not sure why this budgie appeared to be female. Anyway, it has been confirmed that Leo is a boy budgie. And, while Leo is not yet tame, he's working on it. His foster mom says he isn't aggressive, although maybe a little frisky. So stay tuned for the next episode of this exciting story about the "killer" budgie who's really just killer-cute!" If I had my way, all those gluey rodent traps would be banned! I'm Hope, a pretty green budgie with personal experience with those horrible things. A bit of an escape artist, I got out one day and became caught on a glue trap. My well-meaning owner put cooking oil on me to get me loose. It soon became clear that I needed vet care and my young human could not afford that, so I came to Mickaboo. Apparently I had aspirated some of the oil, because I had some respiratory distress. And, of course, someone had to get all that glue and oil off of me! Now I am doing fine and looking for a new home. My other home was actually quite nice -- lots of toys and organic pellets -- so I need something up to my standards. There is one little thing -- I'm a holy terror! Maybe I'm tiny, but I can bite with the best of them and I'm aggressive to other female budgies. (Rumor has it I even killed a female cage mate but I won't confirm or deny it.) For a friend, I need either a human or a male budgie and, in either case, this pal better not be faint of heart. If you are up for the challenge, maybe you are a person I could stick with! Story posted on: July 17, 2005 Print this page |
