7/11/12 Update: Pearl is an amazing bird that has had more challenges than is fair. After recovering from her dislocated knee, she fell I'll with a kidney infection. She recovered from that and was just about ready to rejoin her friends in the aviary when she got PMV, a virus that attacks the nervous system. She recovered from that but still has torticollis (an intermittently twisted neck). She copes like a champ and never complains. She's married a very nice pigeon named Leo and they are an adorable couple. They need their own space and would do well either indoors or in a nice private aviary, UPDATE: I have healed up great and while I have a little bit of a "hitch in my giddy up" as my vet likes to say, it doesn't slow me down a bit. I'm a wonderful pigeon and I enjoy eating my favorite safflower seed treats right out of your hand. Pearl is a baby king pigeon that suffered a dislocated knee (either from rough handling at the live poultry market where she was offered for sale as squab or perhaps when she was being caught after being wrongfully 'set free'). She was surrendered to an SF vet who didn't treat her but did contact SFACC to take her in. MickaCoo was asked to rescue her and provide vet care (to save her from shelter euthanasia). Pearl's knee is being treated and the swelling is going down and she is showing an improved ability to bear weight on it.
