Maya is a very wild and high-spirited young king pigeon who was extremely lucky to be rescued at Pier 94 in SF by a WildCare staffer before a gull, raven or hawk had her for lunch. She arrived weak and emaciated but recovered quickly. Maya befriended another young foster bird- Jenny who is blind- and kept her wonderful company and helped her learn to self-feed. Maya is not an indoor, pet-type king pigeon though. She (suspected, gender TBD) has never warmed up to people and needs an aviary life with birds (unlike Jenny who has special needs).
