UPDATE: Sophie got her 3rd treatment today. 3rd and final shot for the mites, and a beak trim. Dr said maybe one or two more trims over the next few months should do it. Sophie's energy level is up and she is eating well. Her weight has stayed the same since the first week. She is active and noisy as only a happy budgie can be! I am Sophie, temporarily known as Miss Blue, but my foster mom thought Sophie fit me better. She thinks I am an adorable little girl. Boy, am I glad that a Mickaboo volunteer found me!!! My foster mom convinced my surrender family to give me to Mickaboo so my medical problems could be addressed. As you can see from my picture my beak was waaaaay too long! That problem occurred because I had scaly face mites and my owner couldn't afford the vet care to cure it. People don't always realize that birds need medical attention from time to time too -- just like humans. It's not cheap either! It's a responsibility though when you own a pet of any kind. Food, love, proper medical care and attention--to name just a few things. Once Mickaboo got a hold of me, I was whisked away to the vet. I've had two beak trims and two shots to date. I am feeling much better in the past couple weeks, getting friskier and eating pretty well. I can't wait 'til I can be with her other budgies! I try as hard as I can to get out of my cage to get over near them -- but so far no luck! Mom says "pretty soon" though. I was basically a seed junkie, and currently ignore my pellets, though Mom is able to sneak in an occasion veggie or two -- so I need some work on my diet. I like other birds so much I would prefer it if you had other budgies. Perhaps you could adopt me, as well as one or two more to be my companions? Notice: Due to the highly social nature of parakeets, unless a household currently includes a parakeet, Mickaboo generally requires that a minimum of two parakeets be adopted. Print this page |
