8/17 UPDATE: Neo has grown steadily stronger and bigger and he is a very strong, handsome pigeon now and he even has a mate- Isabella. Neo knows how to wear pants but he prefers to be naked! Isabella is a wonderful ambassador pigeon and works alongside MickaCoo volunteers at many adoption events. They are available for adoption together. Neo is a baby king pigeon that was found starving to death on the streets of SF and taken into SFACC on 4/23 where he was too weak and depressed to eat and was scheduled for euthanasia. He was rescued by MickaCoo the next day and with supportive foster care, is slowly improving and gaining weight and strength. He was dyed pink, probably at the live poultry market where he was being sold for meat (squab). Eventually he will molt out the dyed feather and be his lovely natural brown & white self. Domestic birds don't usually survive being "released" into the wild long enough to get to shelters and there most are euthanized as "surplus".
