Hi, my name is Rafiki--quite an exotic name, but perfect for an exotic bird such as myself, don't you think? I'm a red rumped parakeet. My foster mom says I'm exceptionally beautiful and my bright colors will delight you! I'm native to Australia. I produce a nice range of pleasant sounds, including a two-note whistle, a soft, not unpleasant chattering and a louder chatter when I'm playing. As with all other parakeets, a seed diet alone is not good for me. Vegetables, fruit, millet and cuttlebone offer a wider range of nutrients to keep me healthy. I also like pasta and rice. I was well taken care of before my recent adventure into the wild blue yonder (wing clips definitely have a purpose-to keep us domestic birds safe), since I like the healthy food I'm getting now. I was found on a golf course with a broken wing, taken to a bird clinic, and they contacted Mickaboo. My broken wing hangs a little lower than the other one, but I can fly and get around just fine. I lost most of my tail feathers during the ordeal, and was also molting, but my feathers are all are growing back now and I look really good! I?m eating well, healing well, and now I just need a new home to flourish in. Do you like parakeets? Especially those with particularly bright colors, and a red rump to boot? Notice: Due to the highly social nature of parakeets, unless a household currently includes a parakeet, Mickaboo generally requires that a minimum of two parakeets be adopted. Print this page |
