8/31/05 Here is an update from Humphrey's foster mom: "I have not been able to work with Humphrey to tame him more, but he is converted to Harrison's and chows it down. My goal is to start spending more time with him. He is happy, despite not getting enough out of cage time. No feather plucking or cage fright that was reported when he was surrendered." UPDATE 5/3/05: They say cats have 9 lives, so I can only hope that cockatiels have at least 3. I'm Humphrey, a petit but handsome guy who has been there--done that. I mean, I started out with a cruel owner. When he was arrested, Mickaboo found me a new "nest." Now that owner has brought me back to Mickaboo to find one more home. In all this moving around, I have not learned all I should about eating well or accepting hands. I still eat seeds only but don't give up! Keep offering the good stuff, and I may yet improve my diet. (Maybe I need to watch another cockatiel eat those veggies and pellets.) Hands are scary, especially in my cage. Once I come out on my own, I will step up and down a little, but I am better stepping on to a stick. In my last home, I was allowed to fly around, so now I can still fly pretty well even with my wings clipped. This means you must have some strict safety rules. Also, I sometimes (but not often) get night frights, so a nightlight might be a good idea. My special talent is singing pretty cockatiel songs and being generally noisy in a happy way. You see, despite my painful experiences, I'm a sweet and cheerful little guy. Will you please prove to me that the third time is the charm? Notice: Cockatiels are flock animals, and most of them are much happier when they live with at least one other cockatiel! Because of this, unless a household currently includes another cockatiel, Mickaboo usually requires that a minimum of two cockatiels be adopted. Print this page |
