My name is Yardley-my new name that is.
I'm one lucky cockatoo! Somehow I got loose from my home and was out at least a month, or more, in the big wide world. Multiple reported sightings of a loose cockatoo got Mickaboo volunteers motivated to rescue me before something really bad happened. They spent many hours watching, trying to convince me to come down out of the trees, talked nicely to me, tried to woo me down with other friendly 'toos and even brought me food! One really nice guy, my personal hero, finally convinced me it was the right thing to do, and boy am I happy that I did! I am really quite a nice bird- I love head scritches and being around people very much. I guess I thought it would be fun flying free- not! My preference, compared to the outdoors, is a nice house, with my own cage, good food every night, spray baths- the works. Since I was not born wild I didn't know quite how to do things like a wild bird does instinctively!
Since I've been outdoors with the extreme heat, and eating who knows what, I am going for a much needed vet check. My tongue has sores or blisters on it. One lady thinks maybe I ate something off hot metal or cement. Everyone who has met me thinks I am great- so I think I will have a new home really quick! Yippee!

Foster update 10/29/09 Yardley cannot be adopted to a home with a smaller cockatoo. He shows strong aggression towards a goffin and a bare-eyed.

Notice: Due to the notoriously difficult nature of cockatoos, Mickaboo prefers that cockatoos not be a households' first parrot. If you intend to house a cockatoo, please research the following websites:
