Greetings! I am Cornelia - a 20+ year old wild-caught goffins cockatoo. I was captured many years go and brought to the US to live. That is not allowed any more though. Eleven years ago my caretaker's Dad brought me home from his school. I was pretty timid at first, but my mom spent about a month working with me and I learned to step up. We became good friends after that. My health was not good. I was dehydrated, had malnutrition, not enough sun, a nasal infection, an ear infection, etc. My avian vet thought I would never be 100% again. However, my mom did everything she was told to do: daily showers, daily cage clean, sun lamp and outdoor sun, healthy pellet diet with some veggies, 12 hours of dark sleep. My mom got me into excellent shape. Every time my mom brought me to my vet, she said I was one of the best looking and healthiest cockatoos she sees. My mom made a point of having some of her students and friends hold me so that I would become well socialized. I have had some 'kid' exposure, but not a lot. She also held me for a little while every day. I enjoyed being pet and preened by her. My mom did not want to hold me too much though since I was a bit overly attached. Plus, my vet said it was good for me to learn to entertain myself without always needing to be held. So, that's how it went for the next 8 years. When my mom had human kids I did not handle it very well. I did not get as much attention and I began to screech quite a bit. So I have been living at a relatives place for the past couple years, but they don't interact with me very much. So, I will need a little TLC and someone who is patient and willing to work with me to build a relationship. Though my mom can't have me with her any more she wants a home where I can be happy again. Could that be with you? Notice: Due to the notoriously difficult nature of cockatoos, Mickaboo prefers that cockatoos not be a households' first parrot.
