10/8/09 Update! I am all healthy now and my feathers are growing very handsome like, if I do say so myself. My foster mom says that I am a big clown. I love to play and climb all over my cage. Being held close is the best part of my day, I will "thump" my head down on your chest for all the lovin' I can get. The foster parents I have now talked me into making some diet changes and man o man am I glad they did! Yummy pellets and veggies and fruits and almonds....ahhh life is good. I 'step-up' like a pro with all the manners a distinguished gentleman should have. Would you like me to show you? I just love an audience! My story is sad indeed. I am an umbrella cockatoo with a very horrid past. Unbelievably, I am still a sweetheart. We cockatoos have big hearts and a great capacity to love our humans. I used to be owned by a nice lady then a relative had me and shut me out on a porch and squished me into a very tiny, rusted cage with my friend-a big macaw. Cookies and peanuts were tossed into my cage to eat, as my only diet. Bugs were crawling all over me and I was filthy dirty too. Needless to say I became a plucker and have lost some of my feathers. Once Mickaboo got me I was rushed to a specialty avian vet who gave me a good going over. I have a pretty bad respiratory infection and will mostly likely be put on medication for it. I crave human attention and I will cry out for you if you are not within my sight. I love to be held and I will even cuddle in your neck. I probably wont panic so much when I am alone once I am feeling safe and secure again. I also know how to talk! I can say things like hello, hi, mama, peek-a-boo, and my favorite phrase is I love you. Do you want somebody to love? I do! How about we become friends? Write to Mickaboo if you think we would be good together! Notice: Due to the notoriously difficult nature of cockatoos, Mickaboo prefers that cockatoos not be a households' first parrot.
