Update from Cozmo's foster mom 6/9/09: Cozmo is doing really well. She's grown all her chest feathers back and no longer needs to wear a collar. She's almost stopped plucking (rarely, she lightly chews on her feather). Whoever adopts her just needs to understand & be willing to learn more about general plucking behavior in birds. Cozmo gets quite hormonal when hugged or cuddled. We do let her hang out with us in the evenings, but our only rule for her is: "No Cuddling". Also, I am trying to get her to forage for food and treats. She's a very high-energy bird. Whoever adopts her needs to make sure that her energy is being used in a constructive way rather than plucking. Update (02/27/2009): I am doing really well. The hole in my chest has healed completely and I am growing lots of feathers now. I am ready to be adopted! Hello people! My name is Cozmo and I'm just 5 years old! I am an umbrella cockatoo with a not so happy past. I became so stressed out at one point that I began to pick and pluck many of my feathers to the point of self mutilation. As you can see in my photograph I have a large gaping hole in my chest. I had to be "rescued" by someone and then it was financially difficult for that nice lady to deal with my expensive vet bills so she contacted Mickaboo to help. It was hard for her to do as she cares for me so very much. She wants the best for me and primarily for me to get well again. I am a friendly and loving bird, but I do have abandonment issues. If you adopt me you will have to be gentle, caring and understanding of this plucking behavior I am going through. My favorite snacks are bananas, cheese, crackers and assorted other fruits and my regular food is ZuPreem fruit blend flavor. I will make a great companion for someone once I am better. Please check for updates and hopefully soon I will be available for adoption! Notice: Due to the notoriously difficult nature of cockatoos, Mickaboo prefers that cockatoos not be a households' first parrot.
