Update: My foster mommy and daddy say that I am a much more handsome bird that when I came to them a few months ago. I never knew there were so many yummy fruits out there, and I've been loving my new pellets and learning to like a few vegetables also (greenbeans are lots of fun!). I'm still pretty shy about trying new foods, but my new diet has made my feathers glow! My greens are greener, my red is red and I have a whole new batch of feathers on my chest (I think I lost some feathers due to my bad previous diet). I am also starting to realize that people aren't so bad. I'm very shy. I step up and down nicely, though I hate to go home and like to spend my days on top of the cage on my new perches. I watch daddy type on the computer, and mutter and purr at him. Sometimes he forgets I am here because I am so quiet (though sometimes he catches me watching him like a hawk - teehee). When I first get out of my cage in the morning I think I am a rooster, but after a few minutes of excitement I am ready for my day! I love being out in the sun in my cage, and I love looking out the window. I mutter and make nice little sound sort of like "uh-huh" when I am talking with people. Sometime I just mutter quietly to hear myself say something. Unfortunately, I don;'t say any words, but I'm pretty expressive anyway. I like music and sometimes I sing along, but all in all I like a quiet environment. I don't let mommy and daddy pat me yet, but I do like the shower, and I do like to to fly back to my cage several times a day - I gotta keep my wings and heart in good shape :) I think I'd like to find a home with some folks that have a pretty calm life. Daddy is pretty sure I am a middle aged bird, so I'm ready to sit with a nice snack and watch TV or read a book with you. I am a very mellow birdie. _______________ Omar here. Since I don't have my birth certificate handy, Mickaboo's Amazon experts had to decide whether I'm a Mexican Red-Headed (AKA Green-Cheeked) Amazon or a Lilac-Crowned Amazon. The color of my eyes led them to the conclusion that I am a green-cheeked. I was left at a shelter in Santa Cruz with my buddy Otto the Sun Conure. Mickaboo came to get us just as our time there was about to run out (yikes!) I'm probably at least 20 years old and I am recovering from a chronic bad diet, lack of exercise and depression from being cooped up in a shelter for so long. Otto and I had kind of a disagreement during this frustrating time so we are going our separate ways. I am doing much better in foster care, where I can sit with my foster dad by a sunny window and climb all around exploring. He says that I have all the makings of a very good boy. Of course I do! I just need the right care and the right environment to get me back to being a happy, healthy and loving companion bird. Check back soon to see how I am doing. Thanks!
