Lovebird foster parents agree...

We Adore Our Lovebirds!

  • Lovebirds have a zest for life, with big bird personalities in small packages.
  • Outfitted in beautiful colors, they rate at the very top of the cuteness scale.
  • Their non-stop activity keeps us laughing.
  • They’re opinionated and funny – like having your own personal soap opera, except cuter.
  • Musical cheeping fills our homes with cheer.
  • Always curious, these little birds like to be near the center of activity, “chatting” with their humans.
  • Lovebird pairs like to be near us, but are rarely shoulder birds. They prefer hanging out with their Lovebird buddies, and don't need much dedicated time and attention from humans.
  • When tame, single lovebirds can be sweet little shoulder birds. Singles require more attention from their humans because they see you as their mates!
  • Usually ravenous, so easy to feed.
  • You’ll never need a 'paper shredder' if you have lovebirds around.
  • And finally, when in pairs, we think they're perfect birds for people with busy lives.

UPDATE March 2008: Jude is still cage aggressive but once she is out, she is a lot better. She is getting more used to people. She and Bill will shower with their foster parent on a shower perch and they have been taught to hop off of the shower perch onto their foster parents towel when she clicks her tongue. Bill is still plucked and is a little nervous but can be handled. Bill and Jude will flit over to you and sit on your head, arm or leg. Jude will sit on your shoulder but is very timid about it.

Fisher's lovebird and Black mask lovebird. As the bird world turns....We parrots have our own ideas about pairing up. I'm Bill and my significant other is now Jude. We are two beautiful Fischer's lovebirds. I used to be with another Mickaboo lovebird, but...well, "love" didn't exactly describe our relationship. But we let our foster mom know who belongs with whom, so Jude and I are now a happy couple. I'm getting back some of the feathers I'd lost and Jude is becoming calmer. She even allows humans to put hands in our cage to do the housekeeping and serve our food. Speaking of food, we are both eating Harrison's pellets now, though we don't care for fruits and vegetables yet. We may not be used to a gourmet diet, but Jude was well-cared for in her previous life. At least she showed up at the animal shelter with toys and healthy food in her dishes. I showed up at the animal shelter with..well, I showed up. But now we are ready for Act II of this soap opera, and you get to write the script. Do you want to spend time helping us appreciate hands-on attention? Do you want to give us plenty of toys and fun things to do and just stand back and be our audience? Or both? Hey, we're in love and ready for anything! Story posted on: May 8, 2004
