Update, 11 Jan 2009: After just over a month in foster care I am eating well, playing with all of my toys, climbing around my cage like a gymnast and enjoying the companionship of my foster family. And, day by day, all of my gorgeous, colorful feathers are growing back in and my fear of abandonment is going away. I'm a curious bird, and I love to be near people all the time so that I can watch them. I'm calm and gentle as Amazon parrots go, and will make a great addition to somebody's household -- maybe yours? Hello! I'm Crush the Orange-Winged Amazon, named after the soft drink. I was originally brought into the Solano County Animal Shelter by somebody who just didn't want me around anymore. The cardboard box I was in was so small that my feathers were sticking out the sides of it! I was scared and timid at the shelter and spent most of my time there shaking in fright. Because of this, the shelter workers thought I was sick and called Mickaboo for me. A quick trip to the doctor by a conscientious Mickaboo volunteer determined that I was not sick, just scared and broken-hearted. I have just been in foster care for a short time and I have already started to put my life back together! I'm enjoying apples, pomegranates, formulated pelleted diet, and sprouted grains. I also like Rice Chex as a special treat. I step up for my foster parents when I feel like it and I am growing less and less scared every day. My plumage was pretty roughed up from my ordeal in the cardboard box and a bad diet but, as you can see from my photograph I am a very pretty girl. I have never bitten anybody in foster care and most of my vocalizations are gentle and not too loud. Check back here to see how I am doing as I continue to settle into foster care! Notice: Due to the sometimes difficult nature of amazons, Mickaboo prefers that amazons not be a households' first parrot.
