Hi, I'm Bokonon but you can call me Boko for short. I'm a Rose-ringed parakeet, which is a species of the Psittacula genus of Afro-Asian parakeets. In simpler terms I'm a sharp-looking green bird with a long bluish tail and a distinctive pink and black ring around my neck. The top part of my beak is dark red and the bottom, which is black with shades of red, sits neatly against the front part of my ring so that it's hard to tell where the ring ends and the beak begins. Go ahead, click on my picture and zoom in. Neat, huh? I came to Mickaboo from the East Bay, where I was found outdoors and in need of some TLC. By all indications I am fairly young and healthy. I'm still a bit nervous after my outdoor ordeal but I like being around people. Like most of the Psittacula I like to eat lots of fruit -- apples and pomegranates are my favorites so far -- and I will nibble at grains and pasta. I will step onto a stick for my foster dad and let him put me up on a playpen for a few hours each night. Besides climbing all over the place, my favorite thing during playtime is to talk to the bird that I see in the in the mirror. I will lean forward to say"HELLO!", then lean way back and echo "HELLO?" So far, I haven't got the other bird to say anything to me but I will keep trying! I also make a sound just like an air-raid siren but not (quite) as loud. One thing that you need to know about birds like me: we aren't very big but our beaks are proportionally very large. So you really don't want to put us with other types of birds our same size. I'm a friendly, easy-going guy but I will need a human companion who has experience with the Psittacula or with larger birds. I'd prefer being around people as much as I can, even if they are not interacting with me. If you are interested in making friends with a handsome and exotic guy like me, call Mickaboo!
