I'm a quite lovely lovebird named Abbie. I was found as a stray I when flew into someone's home-and was then kept temporarily by my rescuer. For awhile I was intent on laying eggs, but I'm done with that now. I had blood work done and everything came back normal. I thoroughly enjoy my spray baths, eat pellets with gusto, and love attention from other birds in the household. I'm also a playful little birdie as I love playing with toys and then after a hard day of play I like to snuggle up to my birdie buddy for a good nights rest. My foster parents wanted to let you know that I happily and eagerly forage through empty pistachio shells for Harrison's pellets and love nibbling on greens clipped to my cage. They've got 4 foraging bowls and I love going through them as have a great appetite! I also eat scrambled eggs with shells, but the vet wants to move me off of high-fat, high-protein foods to keep me from laying more eggs. So, pellets and veggies..... Tomorrow. I'm getting fresh sprouts too. I'm a happy little camper, albeit a bit shy at times. I became comfortable with my new environment rather quickly and enjoy bedtime Tropical night "music" sounds. Update 2/1/09: Abbie's a very sweet bird, somewhat shy at first but with a huge personality. She absolutely loves to forage, and enjoys eating fruit and veggies off of skewers. She'll also eat chopped veggies out of a bowl, but that lacks the entertainment value of seeing this tiny lovebird go after a giant fruit skewer like it insulted her family. If there are other birds in the area, she'll happily eat whatever they're eating. She's also extremely active in playing with her toys. She really puts her heart into it, often throwing around toys twice as big as she is. After playing, Abbie likes to take naps. She has quite a few dreams -- we often catch her having a complex, chirpy conversation while her head is under her wing. Abbie's very happy to just sit on your shoulder for long periods of time. She seems very content and independent, but she likes being around other birds and people. She has a great time playing in her cage, but she really seems to enjoy out-of-cage playtime. She's a great mimic, especially for bird sounds. She's learned most of the calls of our other birds, reproducing them in her high-pitched mini-me voice. She may seem a bit nippy at first, especially if she's inside her cage, but she becomes tame as she gets to know you. She'll still get a little upset if you reach into her cage without warning, and I think she'll hang on to her "lovebird spunk" no matter how tame she gets. Print this page |
