How can anyone look at this sweet face and not want to keep this little bird safe at home? But,unfortunately, every year large numbers of people decide to get rid of their pet birds. Sometimes, like Belle's family, they say they just don't want to take care of them any more. Sometimes the owners die or become too ill to care for pets. Sometimes, they think it is cheaper to throw their birds away and buy new ones later than to pay a pet sitter while they're on vacation. Mickaboo is grateful for the families that take their unwanted pets to the animal shelter rather than turn them loose to fend for themselves. Pet birds turned loose in an urban environment are more apt to starve to death or be eaten by predators than to end up safely in someone's home. If you know of someone that wishes to give up their pet, encouage them to find another home for the pet or, as a last resort, take the animal to a shelter. Then, like pretty little Belle, they can be adopted by someone else. Print this page |
