Lovebird foster parents agree...

We Adore Our Lovebirds!

  • Lovebirds have a zest for life, with big bird personalities in small packages.
  • Outfitted in beautiful colors, they rate at the very top of the cuteness scale.
  • Their non-stop activity keeps us laughing.
  • They’re opinionated and funny – like having your own personal soap opera, except cuter.
  • Musical cheeping fills our homes with cheer.
  • Always curious, these little birds like to be near the center of activity, “chatting” with their humans.
  • Lovebird pairs like to be near us, but are rarely shoulder birds. They prefer hanging out with their Lovebird buddies, and don't need much dedicated time and attention from humans.
  • When tame, single lovebirds can be sweet little shoulder birds. Singles require more attention from their humans because they see you as their mates!
  • Usually ravenous, so easy to feed.
  • You’ll never need a 'paper shredder' if you have lovebirds around.
  • And finally, when in pairs, we think they're perfect birds for people with busy lives.

Update 8/04/06: When lovebirds pair up, it's not always a male-female bonding. In this case, Houdini paired up with Svengali - and it turned out both birds were females. Sadly, Houdini died in the spring of 2006 from egg binding. Svengali had a period of mourning, but was given emotional support and love by her human and avian family, and in time she paired up with Chuck.
Update 1/14/06: Well, people get divorces don't they? So do lovebirds! Since we've joined the flock at our foster Mom's, we're no longer bonded and would like to find separate homes. But because we've always been around other birds, we need to have at least one lovebird companion in our forever home. Is that your home?
You can probably guess by our names that we're escape artists. We are Houdini and Svengali, sibling peach faced lovebirds about nine months old. Our parents are Chuck and Yoshi, also Mickaboo birds. They did a good job of raising us in the home of a young girl who took good care of our whole family. When she had too much homework to cope with a couple of lovebirds who had become a flock, we came to Mickaboo. Though we have been handled by people, we are still shy. We don't know how to step up. In fact, when offered a hand, we usually run the other way! But we are very young so we can learn. We already know all about veggies and pellets, but our foster mom is trying to teach us to like the ones without artificial colors. If you come meet us, maybe we can demonstrate our magic by turning you into the happy companion of a couple of beautiful lovebirds! Story posted on: May 11, 2005
