UPDATE 1/17/06: Some really lucky people now have me as their new forever bird! I fit right into this busy house full of other birds and kids. I'm usually pretty quiet myself, but sometimes I have to join in if some rowdy shouting is going on. And when laughter is called for, I can chuckle with the best of them. Nothing much bothers me (except for hand-held sticks and we don't even want to talk about that). I don't care much yet for veggies and grains but enjoy my pellets and love fruit, especially bananas. The woman here is my bonded favorite. I let her kiss me and pet me just about anywhere on my body, though I am a bit touchy about neck scritches. In turn, she lets me ride on her shoulder because I feel so calm and safe up there. She tries to get me to exercise my wings, but only the sight of the kids bouncing on the little trampoline triggers my flapping. Music makes me dance, and I can also rock with a person in a rocking chair. I'm cautious with new toys, but when I accept them, I trash them! I'm a polite girl who goes in and out of my cage with no fuss. I even try to poop only on newspapers if at all possible! These people are so lucky I adopted them! I'm Pula, a mini macaw who came from severe circumstances. I won't tell you the details, but I was confiscated by animal control so you know things were pretty bad. Despite that, I am in good shape, especially now that I've had a chance to get cleaned up. My nutrition has been poor, so my feathers aren't the best; and my muscles aren't well developed because I was kept in such a small cage. But things are looking up because my foster dad is giving me nutritious pellets and introducing me (with limited success so far) to fruits and veggies. Until coming here, I had no experience with stepping up, but I'm learning. I'm a friendly girl who likes to ride on shoulders and explore. I can be snuggly, too. I won my foster dad's heart fast by nuzzling my way into his shirt and settling down for a nap. Understandably, I am a tad timid but I think I could get used to this head scratch thing. I could be noisy but so far have refrained most of the time, and don't usually bite much or very hard. So if you like to the idea of living with a macaw but want one of us smaller models, and are willing to help me overcome a difficult past, I could be the right bird for you. Print this page |
