Lovebird foster parents agree...

We Adore Our Lovebirds!

  • Lovebirds have a zest for life, with big bird personalities in small packages.
  • Outfitted in beautiful colors, they rate at the very top of the cuteness scale.
  • Their non-stop activity keeps us laughing.
  • They’re opinionated and funny – like having your own personal soap opera, except cuter.
  • Musical cheeping fills our homes with cheer.
  • Always curious, these little birds like to be near the center of activity, “chatting” with their humans.
  • Lovebird pairs like to be near us, but are rarely shoulder birds. They prefer hanging out with their Lovebird buddies, and don't need much dedicated time and attention from humans.
  • When tame, single lovebirds can be sweet little shoulder birds. Singles require more attention from their humans because they see you as their mates!
  • Usually ravenous, so easy to feed.
  • You’ll never need a 'paper shredder' if you have lovebirds around.
  • And finally, when in pairs, we think they're perfect birds for people with busy lives.

We are Brillo (Bree-yo) and Beso, two beautiful peach faced lovebirds. Our names are very appropriate as Brillo is a very bright and sunny lutino lovebird and Beso (that's me) is known for a famous kiss I gave my foster mom on the lip when I came to live with her. Ouch! I didn't mean to, I just thought all humans were bad based on my last house. Here's our story: Beso was found a couple years ago in a San Jose parking lot and I ended up staying with the man who found me. Did he try to find out if anyone was looking for me? I don't know. A few months later the man went to a pet store and bought Brillo for me as a friend. Thankfully he did that for me as I am so happy to be with Brillo but everything else went downhill. He and his kids didn't know how to take care of us and basically everything was done wrong. I mean everything. My foster mom couldn't believe the emotional state we were in when we first came to her. We were TERRIFIED of people, especially children. In fact, I had a blood tear once when I saw I child again as I was so scared. Our foster mom has just been very patient with us, telling us everything will be OK and showing us that life can be really fun. We learned to eat pellets right away and we learned from the other foster lovebirds here how to play with toys. We also get a lot of time in her outdoor aviary so we can be in fresh air and sunshine and just learn how to be birds again. Our foster mom says that she can't believe how far we've come in just a couple months with her. All we needed was to be treated with some respect and love -- the way that all creatures deserve to be treated. Especially beautiful lovebirds like us! We are much calmer now and step up most times outside of our cage though we are still afraid of hands. We will sit on shoulders and love to look into the mirror with you. We are still scared of people but keep learning more and more. We are hoping to go to a home without children. Sadly, even though we've been around children who are nice to us, the memories are so bad that we just regress into our old habits. Whoever takes us would just need to be patient and not demand too much from us as we're just learning how to be birds again. We could easily go to a home with other lovebirds as we just love lovebird company. In fact, once we met the lovebird family, all we want to do is start our own family! It was so much fun being Auntie Beso to Apple & Fig that Beso laid 6 eggs! But we understand how Mickaboo has to help so many birdies like us that we can't have babies. We're just so thankful that Mickaboo did help us get out of such a horrible situation. Mickaboo has told us that there is a wonderful home just waiting to help two little birdie underdogs like us have a fairytale ending. They just haven't found us yet. So we're saying our prayers that this special home finds us soon as we are ready to start our new, happy life. In return we will live up to our names and fill your days with bright sunny colors and lots of sweet kisses! Please call Mickaboo today!
