My name is Ruby and I'm a Timneh African Grey. I lived with my first "parronts" for about 8 years, actually since I was old enough to eat on my own. They always told me I was a pretty girl but not too long ago an old friend of theirs told them I might be a handsome boy! I don't care if I'm called Ruby or Rudy, just don't forget to call me when my food is ready. I love to eat human foods of all kinds but there is some stuff they gave me more of called fruits and vegetables. I also like Harrisons pellets, especially the hot and spicy ones.

Up until the last two years I lived with them, I was let out of my cage every day to just hang out. My "parronts" were getting older and we moved from New Jersey into an assisted living retirement home here in CA and they couldn't let me out as much as I was accustomed to. I knew they still loved me but I became frustrated and started pulling feathers out of my chest. My mom thought I was becoming depressed and they talked about me moving to a different home, one where I could be in a bigger cage, have more toys and be as active as I was in New Jersey, one where I could get out of my cage to play and interact with people and one who would take really good care of me. Their daughter contacted Mickaboo and here I am!

Update from foster mom: When Ruby was first moved here she (he?) was very nervous and showed it by hissing and lashing out whenever I got near her cage. After a wing clip and some socialization, we are definitely making progress. She is no longer plucking her feathers out, but like a grey she still does things on her own terms! Ruby is definitely a good eater and Harrisons is the only pellet she will eat. Ruby is a very active bird and LOVES her toys. While some birds are afraid when you put something new in their cages, Ruby is very inquisitive and goes right over to check it out. Ruby does show a preference for women and she has not been around kids so her reaction to them is unknown. She loves attention and is used to having her people around most of the time. If that sounds like it fits your lifestyle, she'd love to have you come by so she can check you out!
