UPDATE 4/16/05 Mister had papilloma and eventually died for unknown reasons following surgery. He was a very special, sweet and gentle bird. Below is a memorial tribute from his foster mom: "My Loving Tribute to a Loving Bird aka "Mister". A green-wing macaw flew into my heart in October of 2004. He was very sick with the papilloma virus so he was headed down to Oakley Vet. and Dr. Speers. His surgery went better than anyone expected and we all hoped for Mister's speedy recovery. However, about a week later, he took a turn for the worse and later that same morning, he died quietly in my arms. As I was covering his remains I vowed to do everything in my power to help any and all birds who were afflicted with the virus. I made this decision because without doing a thing, Mister single-handedly opened my heart up to an even greater avenue of love. To be able to even gaze at a creature as beautiful as Mister is a sight that comes straight from God. Mister was taken from the wild and forced into abject slavery. His life was deemed no longer important because he was found roaming the streets of Roseville with a tumor on his wing that prevented him from any future flying. Maria, a Mickaboo volunteer, brought him to my house and he accepted the move as if it were nothing. He ate heartily and laughed at everything. He had all the rest of my animals spooked because he would roam through the house in search of me. Towards the end, he roamed the house in search of an opened window because he wanted so badly to be outdoors. I would take him out and he would look to the sky while walking towards the south. Once he was gone, I screamed and screamed at God. I hated him for the pain he allowed Mister to go through. People kept telling me to be thankful that his time spent with Maria and myself more than made up for any others who had disrespected his life. That didn't work for me then. I was angry at everything and everyone. I lived by the mantra..."if only I had ...". Finally, about a week or so after his passing, I had a dream. In it was a beautiful, colorful bird with a very long tail who was flying towards the south sky. It turned around and looked at me and with a smile, I was told, "I am free now! No need to cry or be angry anymore." I buried Mister outside of my bedroom window. I planted columbines and bougainvillea all around. Many times I find myself still talking to him. I will always love you, Mister, I hope to see you when I get "home." In faith and truth, D. W." Male, 45-55 years old seeks family for love, good food, and good company. You must be knowledgeable about big birds and have an endless supply of toys. Hi I'm Mister. I'm a greenwing macaw. Now, just because my name is Mister, that doesn't mean that I'm a formal kind of guy, I'm actually very laid back. I'm a good eater---I eat pellets and veggies and I'm looking to try more new things to eat. My foster mom says that I am very sweet. I say a few words, but she thinks that in time, I will open up and say more. I also like to have my head scratched. I might have another 20-40 years left in me, so I would like to find a place that I can call home for good this time. What do you think, is there a Missus out there for Mister? Or even a Mister for a Mister? Print this page |
