The sad news from Pico's foster Mom 10/22/03: "Pico was just about to go to his wonderful, permanent new home when the first symptom appeared. Pico ended up having cancer and was gone within a week. I feel very lucky that we were able to be with him at the end. He went very peacefully. Pico will always be remembered as a sweet, innocent, and spunky lovebird who just wanted to be friends with all my other lovebirds. While he was here, he made good friends with both Kiwi and Sonrisa, two other Mickaboo foster birds. He brought a lot of fun into our household and will be missed very much. Thank you, Mickaboo for doing all that you did for Pico. I am so happy that his last few months were spent getting the royal Mickaboo treatment that he so deserved. Though his voice is quiet, his spirit echoes still." Going once, going twice...you better get your bids in quick as I'm going to go fast! My name is Pico Rojo (Spanish for red beak.) You can call me Pico for short. I am a spunky Fischer lovebird with all the colors of the rainbow. Big parrot colors packed into a tiny bundle of energy! I was found on the streets of San Jose and taken to the humane society. No one there noticed that I couldn't perch. A Mickaboo volunteer came in on another errand and saw me on the bottom of my cage. She was able to take me directly to the vet where they found out I had severe metal toxicity. It was so bad that it started to affect my neurological system and I could no longer use my feet. The good news is that my doctor says the metal toxicity was very recent, and I will have a full recovery. I'm already starting to perch and am feeling much better. I'm a very curious birdie and LOVE to be where the action is. My foster mom says I'm fairly tame and really smart. But more than anything, I just love to be with people and other birds. I keep trying to visit my foster mom's lovebirds and I keep getting into trouble! I'd love to go to a home where someone would have the time to work with me and bring out my very best. Maybe you have another Fischer lovebird that could be my very own friend? If I sound like the bird for you, you better call quick because I'm not planning to hang out at Mickaboo for long. Put your bid in now!
